There are a wide range of destinations within a short cycle ride of your new home at City Fields! Wakefield city centre can be reached in around 15-minutes, which offers a wide range of shops, restaurants and other facilities; including Trinity Walk shopping centre. A journey to one of the three nearby train stations takes a similar time. When you consider the time it can take to park that is probably quicker than a journey by car!
There are also a number of designated cycle routes within the vicinity of your new home, making a journey by bike even more attractive! Neil Fox Way, the road adjacent to the new homes has segregated cycleways on both sides – providing a direct route between Doncaster Road and Stanley, as well as Pinderfields Hospital.
Further cycle routes are located just east of City Fields, accessible from Doncaster Road and form part of National Cycle Network (NCN) route 67 and the Wonders of Wakefield (WOW) route (which follow the same route in the vicinity of the site). A range of destinations can be accessed along these routes, including Stanley Ferry, Wakefield city centre, Walton, Crofton and Leeds (via NCN Route 67). Both of these routes are also traffic-free in the vicinity of your home.
Both the WOW route and NCN route are great for short trips as well as longer, more leisurely cycle rides. There are further leisure cycle routes located along the eastern bank of the River Calder, which you can access via the segregated cycleways along Neil Fox Way.
Planning a Journey by Bike
If you are unfamiliar with the local area and looking to plan a route by bike, an online route planner can be a really useful tool to use. You can enter your journey start point and end point and the route planner will display a number of route options on a handy map. Alongside easy to follow directions it will tell you how far the journey is, how long it will take, and even how hilly it is.
The West Yorkshire Interactive Cycle Map shows Wakefield’s comprehensive network of cycle routes but when used in combination with the City Connect Journey Planner also allows you to plan your journey from A to B. Simply enter your start and finish points and away you go!
In addition to online route planners, there are also a range of cycle maps available – check out our useful guides and resources for cycling in Wakefield.
